DENISE WEAVER ROSS

Denise Weaver Ross is an artist, poet and graphic designer who lives and works in Albuquerque, NM. Her images are richly layered with mythological, cultural, and historical references. She works with large thematic ideas that play out across multiple pieces of art, types of art, and poetry. Denise’s poetry has been published in many anthologies as well as in five books of her own.

Her “House of Cards” series re-imagines a deck of cards as large-scale works-on-paper. In these marvelous layered images, clubs become trees, spades explore bones and fossils, diamonds transform into constellations and celestial bodies, and hearts are inspired by Egyptian Tomb paintings and the Tarot.  Her ongoing “Legendary Creatures” series explores creatures from many cultures around the world.

Denise is an award-winning artist. Her work has been commissioned for the poster art for ¡Globalquerque!, Albuquerque, New Mexico’s annual world music festival, and her commissioned murals grace the walls in a variety of spaces. Denise graduated from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst with a Master of Fine Arts degree. She has exhibited in galleries and museums both nationally and internationally.
