17” x 21” This piece depicts my sister, Sevía. She is obviously a woman, and clearly feminized in this depiction- she’s adorned in flowers, her hair flows, and she exudes vibrancy. While this piece fits into a certain mold of how we commonly choose to iconify women with overt color and accessory, her face creates stark contrast. Her expression is not overtly warm, nurturing, or inviting- if anything, it is neutral, subtle, maybe even stoic. This piece leaves the viewer responsible for their interpretation of how she holds herself.
